The BSSA Field Research Grant

The Biology Society of South Australia (BSSA) sponsors an award program to support field research conducted in South Australia relating to the conservation of SA flora or fauna. Honours and postgraduate students are encouraged to apply. NRMjobs has generously made a donation to our grant fund. The maximum award for any proposal recommended by our review panel will be $2,000. BSSA may award multiple grants for up to $2,000.

2009 BSSA Field Research Grant Recipients

Congratulations to the recipients of the 2009 BSSA field research grants!!

This year BSSA awarded grants to three recipients:

Luke Price , PhD student, Environmental Biology, University of Adelaide, "Rapid idenitification and taxonomic description of three undescribed frog species endemic to South Australia" ($1000)

Emma Steggles , PhD student, Environmental Biology, University of Adelaide, "Investigating soil seed banks and vegetation dynamics in Western Myall open woodland at Yellabinna Regional Reserve, South Australia" ($1000)

Jasmin Packer & Wayne Boardman , PhD student, Environmental Biology, University of Adelaide, Head of Veterinary Conservation Programs, Adelaide Zoo, "Adapting to altered landscapes: health condition as an indicator of habitat quality for the endangered Southern Brown Bandicoot (Isoodon obesulus obesulus) in the Mount Lofty Ranges" ($500)

2008 BSSA Field Research Grant Recipients

Jasmin Packer, PhD student, Environmental Biology, University of Adelaide, "Assessing Food Resources for the Southern Brown Bandicoot (Isoodon obesulus obesulus) in blackberry (Rubus sp.) and native vegetation of varying densities" ($2000)

Lana Roediger, PhD student, Flinders University, "Population dynamics and reproductive ecology of South Australia's viviparous sea star Parvulastra parvivipara" ($2000)
