National Trust Nature Reserves

The National Trust of South Australia (NTSA) has many nature reserves scattered about the State, which conserve significant areas of natural bushland. Many of these have volunteer Friends Groups who carry out regular bush care, weed control and regeneration programmes. They always warmly welcome volunteers. Several are in the Adelaide Hills, handy to the city. I (Russ Sinclair) coordinate the Engelbrook Friends group, and would particularly like to invite you to come and have a look at Engelbrook. You'll find it in the street directories as Engelbrecht, but NTSA swears this is incorrect! Several students have used the Reserve for honours or other projects; It's a great place to get the feeling you are far away from it all, although it is almost surrounded by suburbia.

What to wear: Comfortable gardening clothes, sunscreen, sturdy boots or wellingtons for wet weather.

What to bring: Sustenance! Please bring your own morning, afternoon tea or lunch. Tools: These popular gardening tools are essential for bushwork-- gloves, secateurs and small hand trowels/diggers. Other favourites are loppers and pruning saws.

Unsuitable weather: Please ring the appropriate coordinator if it is very inclement or over 35 C. If unable to contact the coordinator, call the Natural Heritage Manager on 8212 1133 or 8339 6677 (H).
